To Rent or To Own

I think everyone who settles down experience renting an apartment or a condo unit for a while before having and living on their dream abode, unless of course, if you're born with a silver spoon in the mouth. Hubby and I were no different, we had to go through the process of moving in and moving out for a couple of times before we finally decided to take the plunge and loan our dream house. We're not exactly poor but we're not rich either, so we had to take it step by step, our parents offered financial help but as hubby wants us to stand on our own, we didn't accept any of their offers. My father was even emotional when we declined his offer, but after a while he began to understand and he did look differently at my husband, as if he had this deeper sense of pride for his son-in-law. I admit that it is a rugged path, turning a dream into a reality was really hard and up to now our debts are neck-high but living in our own house and doing anything we want with it without the fear of discussions and debates with a landlord or the fear of a sudden increase in rent or the fear of security breach is enough for us to stand by our decision and live life with pride.
I remember back then, when apartment hunting was my hobby, I was never fully-satisfied with any apartment that we stayed in, there's always something lacking, maybe it was my way of telling my husband that living in a rented place was really not my cup of tea or maybe, the places that we had been to were not really that fit for me and my family. I think we moved in and out for a dozen times in a matter of four years, imagine that? And everytime we did so, I was always looking for another place to rent after a week, that's how pickle I was when we were renting. And I don't think you can blame me, property owners tend to hide or intentionally miss on telling some stuff and details about the places that they offer for rent and lease, and some, even abuse their powers as landlords/landladies. How I wish, we also have apartments ratings here in our country, where we can search information and details about a specific location, the list of apartments and leasing agents, how good are they in their jobs or how fast and reliable are their maintenance service, etc., etc. Don't get me wrong, owning your own house is the best deal ever but if you can't afford it yet, wouldn't it be nice to just key in certain words and have everything that you need in your hands, decision-making and planning can be so much easier and moving in and out for a hundred times in a short span of time will be remote if not totally gone. Then renting can be so sweet...
