Selecta - Hershey's Milk Chocolate Ice Cream

>> Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Note: I was trying to go all natural on the pic so I used no flash, it looked fine on my digicam but it kinda look a lot darker here on my screen. I'm not really sure, but if the photos doesn't look as nice as it should be, please bear with it, I haven't been doing good in food photography lately :(

It's a sizzling summer here in the Philippines, as in it is super hot, sweating and dehydration are all but a common occurrence at the moment *grins*. And what better way to fight of the heat than to eat some chocolate ice cream. I was supposed to buy a Selecta super-thick ice cream, unfortunately, the store I went to was out-of-stock so I decided on a plain Hershey's concoction instead. I prefer fruits in my ice cream but as I am sharing a tub with my family, I knew better than to give in to my cravings, I can only do that in a cup or in a pint or when I visit those scooperies in the mall.

a closer look (after my son spooned a fair amount out)

A 1.5 liter cost P240.00, a bit heavy on the budget but it's all worth it!

Liberty Mocha Roll

>> Thursday, May 12, 2011

We didn't get to celebrate Mother's Day a few Sundays ago as the typhoon Bebeng was wrecking havoc in the city, oh well, not really but the wind and rain prompted us to stay home and just stare at each other *lol*. Good thing, someone with a warm heart and an extra money on her pocket sent us a half roll of mocha from Liberty Food Mart.

I don't know much about the said establishment aside from the fact that the main branch was located along Tondo, Manila and that their products are sold at Silver Crown Restaurant, one of the more famous dining establishment in Caloocan City.

Don't expect nirvana at first bite or on your second, actually don't expect that much *lol*, just think of it as a cake, a roll, a pastry, something that you can eat and fill you up, it's not bad, it's just that it's not that rave-worthy, but I always believe that to each is own, so what may come as common to me maybe special to someone else :D

This is my super late entry for:

Dunkin' Donuts Big Dunk

>> Sunday, May 1, 2011

I've been craving for the Dunkin' Donuts' Big Dunk as their TV promotion run on almost all stations, and everywhere I look I see it. Fortunately, I finally had a taste, well, it's no biggie as it taste like their regular-sized doughnuts, the variants are the same, and as the name implies, really, it's only the size that is different. But does size really matters *grins*?

nutty chocolate, candy-sprinkle, bavarian, boston creme, chocolate-coated

6-pc. box packaging

Verdict? Uhm, I paid 120 pesoses for a Big Dunk box of 6, so it is 20 per piece, right? The regular-sized ones sells at 10, so the practical side of me kind of think that the regular doughnuts is a better choice, but that does not mean that I enjoyed the big ones any less *grins*. Truth, I enjoyed the TV commercials more, the one in the car and the one in the cinema, laughtrip parehas :D

Goldilocks' Brazo de Mercedes

>> Tuesday, March 22, 2011

My family went out two weekends ago, leaving me and the baby behind, to unwind and have fun. They came back with a Goldilocks cake in hand, a whole roll of Brazo de Mercedes, I was even shocked to find out that a roll already cost almost 300pesos, wala na talagang mura sa Pinas, hays.

Sarap yan, isa sa favorite ko, di nga lang nakakabusog kasi puro hangin lang, hahaha.

Note: Pardon the not-so-enticing pics, the battery of my cam is running out of charge already,. so I had to do the shot in a hurry.

Hershey's Miniatures

>> Wednesday, March 16, 2011

A cousin from the city of angels came to visit and he had some goodies to share, I picked Hershey's Miniatures from the lot, I just followed my son's instructions *grins*. It's a pack of bite-sized chocolate bars, the silver one is the milk chocolates, the green one is the dark chocolates, the red one has rice crispies, and the gold one has nuts. My son took care of the silver and green, the rest was left for us to nibble on.

Have you had your dose of chocolates today?

Presto Chocolate Cookie Sandwich

>> Monday, March 14, 2011

I've been seeing this cookie brand in TV advertisements but I haven't had the chance to try it out, not until, my son picked it out himself when we went grocery shopping a few months ago, and it's actually good, I love that it's not too chocolate-y. The filling comes in chocolate but the cookies itself are not, it's mocha, I think, so the chocolate taste is not that overpowering compared to other brands (no name dropping needed :D). We also bought a pack of their peanut butter cookie sandwich, of which I can't seem to find the shot I took, it's actually very good, it's now on my list of to buy goodies *grins*.

A pack cost a little more than P50.00 and it is readily available in the nearby grocery or sari-sari store.

Pinoy Scramble (Ice Crumble)

>> Thursday, March 10, 2011

One of the staple street food of the 80's-90's era (di ko na alam nung 70's, wala pa ko muwang noon) that kids loved - scramble/iskrambol (read: ice crumble). Remember those days, when you line up to buy a cup from the neighborhood manong who peddles scramble right after you wake up from your afternoon nap, the pink-colored, somewhat strawberry-flavored crushed ice that is top with powdered milk and drizzled with Hershey's chocolate and strawberry syrup. I think everyone had a taste of that, unless of course, you belong to the elites of the society *begins to chant, hail to the mighty and rich, hahaha*.

Anyway, that best-loved concoction is back with a vengeance, you can now spot different varieties of ice crumble all over the mall, in the street corners, everywhere, but it now cost from 5-15pesos and comes with a smorgasbord of toppings, from chocolate and multi-colored candy sprinkles, to mini mallows and candy-coated chocolates, to rice crispies and wafer sticks.

You know what I discovered though, it doesn't matter how young or old I am, my love for scramble/iskrambol didn't falter, hahaha.

Have a pleasant Saturday peeps!

Tikoy

>> Saturday, February 5, 2011

It's the beginning of another lunar year and though, I am a little late in greeting everyone, I still wanna say, Kung Hei Wat Chai! As usual, we had some tikoy on the table, we didn't get to celebrate the event with fireworks and the whole hullabaloo as it was a weekday, and with work and morning classes, we can't spare an hour or so at midnight but we can't let a tasty treat such as Tikoy to pass our table.

As far as I know, Tikoy are now available in 4 variants - the classic white one (made with white sugar), the brown one (made with brown sugar, sometimes flavored with coco jam), the green one (pandan-flavored), and the purple one (ube/purple yam-flavored). I wasn't able to get the brown one, the store I went to was out of stock already so I had to contend with three. Prices range from 50php and above, the classic is still the most expensive one though.

Have you had your dose of tikoy this year?

Toblerone

>> Saturday, January 22, 2011

Two weeks from now, we, erase that, most of you, will celebrate the Heart's Day, and what is the most common present given on that day? The one who can't answer that question in less than 10 seconds doesn't deserve one this coming February 14, hahaha, and I'm talking about something edible here, this is a food blog afterall, and I only do the non-food-related posting when I'm paid to do it, hahaha, being frank is not a sin, right? To the ones who thought, whisper, murmur, shout, yell, utter, said, mention CHOCOLATES, here's some internet cookies for you because you got it right, teehee.

And so, for my Yummy Sunday entry, I present Toblerone bite-sized chocolates. Need I say more?

Note: I kind of let my chocolate-crazy self take control thus the photo only has a few pieces left in it, sorry :)

Dairy Queen's Blizzard

>> Saturday, January 15, 2011

I got to visit the Trinoma branch of Dairy Queen a few weeks ago, and what else is the ice cream heaven famous for - Blizzard- not that their other products aren't to die for, it's just that Blizzard is and will always be a trademark DQ. According to their website, "Blizzard is a creamy smooth DQ original, soft serve with your favorite cookies or fruits which adds up to one irresistible taste sensation," don't ask me who made that crappy stuff up, hahaha.

Blizzard comes in 3 sizes, 9oz. (the small ones in the photo below), 12oz. and 160z. (the one in the middle). Flavors are aplenty, you won't run out of ideas but my favorite so far is the one with Oreo and the one infused with caramel. Prices varies depending on the sizes and flavors that you choose, I'm not really fond of receipts and price tags at the moment, so don't bother asking me *grins*.

Photo below, from left to right: Kitkat, Oreo, and their Holiday special, Candy Cane. Well, the one with Kitkat taste like vanilla ice cream with Kitkat, same logic goes with the Oreo-infused one; the candy cane tasted of peppermint and candies with bits of chocolates, yeah, that's the best I can come up with this early morn *grins*.

Magnolia Sorbetes (Chocolate)

>> Wednesday, January 12, 2011

The other half of the Magnolia Sorbetes that me and my kid bought, you know, the missing pair of the one posted below (visual: down arrow), this one is Tsokolate (chocolate) flavor. I think, the only flavor left for me to try is Ube (purple yam), oooh, I can't wait, teehee.

Magnolia Sorbetes (Cheese)

>> Sunday, January 9, 2011

A random purchase, we were walking around our area one windy night last December when my son decided that an ice cream will be a nice cap in our effort to exercise, hahaha, and because I am a loving mother and a sucker for ice cream, I readily agreed to bought one. We passed one of the nearby gift shops and they are Magnolia consignee, and just because I love Michael V. we bought two variants of the product he endorses, hehe.

This is the first one, a Magnolia Sorbetes Keso (cheese), a liter would cost you a hundred bucks, and it is worth every penny, I swear.

If you'll look at the second pic closely, you'll see that a portion of the ice cream was already gone, hahaha, di na nakapagpigil ang anak ko eh kaya kumuha muna sya bago ko napiktyuran :))

Christmas Cookie Box

>> Thursday, January 6, 2011

Photo below was my nanay's universal gift for everyone last Christmas, I found loads of these treats under their tree days before Christmas but when we came back to celebrate the holidays with them, I found all of it gone, and a lone one atop a coffee table was all that's left, waiting for its rightful owner, which is my bebe.

Lesson learned - next time, grab treats even before the celebration begins *lol*.

She bought it in Landmark, I forgot to ask how much it cost her and I don't think those xmas tree boxes are available still anyway. What's inside? A bunch of gold-wrapped, chocolate-coated cookies like that of Fibisco *grins*.

Selecta 3-in-1

>> Monday, January 3, 2011

I mentioned yesterday that a series of post should be expected from yours truly as I am in the process of clearing my hard drive, and as expected from a food blogger (wannabe, hahaha), most of what's in my folders are food pics, so here's a start... please bear with me :)

I'm not really sure if I had already blogged about this ice cream, if I did, sorry for redundancy, if I haven't, that's well and good. We got this in a nearby pharmacy as we went home from church months ago, I remember that half a gallon used to cost less than a hundred but it's 12ophp now, how prices increase in such short span of time is beyond me *grins*.

The name says it all, 3-in-1, it's chocolate, strawberry and ube (purple yam) flavor. It's no Ben and Jerry's but it's an ice cream nonetheless.

Tortitas Black

>> Thursday, November 4, 2010

Though, I try to be super strict on my diet, some cravings just couldn't be stop :) I learnt of Tortitas Black through my younger brother, if I remember correctly, he went home one night with a plastic bag of groceries from Rustan's and it was one of the goodies, good for me as I was staying at my parent's house at that time, bad for him as his glutton of a sister was home when he bought those, hahaha. And, I never stop after that.

It's like your usual Oreo but instead of vanilla cream filling in between two chocolate cookie sandwich, it's just a piece with the filling in its center. It is a product of Arcor which is an Argentine confectionery company that exports their products to 122 countries in the world, including the Philippines, I think, samba chocolate bonbons is also a product of theirs.

Try it, it's really good.

Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bars

>> Wednesday, November 3, 2010

It's kinda late but I hope everyone had a good time celebrating Halloween and indulging in some no-school, no-work breaks, I know, I did *grins*. I was out of the circulation for a few weeks, yet again, pregnancy is really a bugger, hahaha.

Anyway, my son wasn't able to do some trick or treating with his cousins nor was he able to attend a fun day to celebrate Halloween as his mother was puking her intestines and all other internal organs out without a halt, by the way that's me, so no one will accompany him. His aunts took pity and sent packs of Hershey's (the only brand, aside from M&M's, that he eats) for him to indulge in. Thanks sistars, you're the best!

Kalamay (Rice Cake)

>> Wednesday, September 22, 2010

I really don't know what's the actual name of this rice cake, I simply know it as kalamay and you can, usually, find it at makeshift stalls during fiesta celebrations, sellers are usually from Antipolo and Rizal area. It was sold at 3 pieces for a hundred but as I used my power of haggling, I got one piece free, woot for me. Oh yeah, I even got to eat suman and other stuff for free, uso free taste sa street market kapag fiesta, I love!

In the olden days (hahaha, pang fairy tale ang intro), these treats only comes in brown, just like the ones in the pic, but now, they have white and green ones, I was, actually, stunned. I am naive like that *grins*. I, also, bought 2 pieces of the white one and a piece of green but I still prefer the brown one, the latik is just perfect.
